66. CAROLINA HURRICANES
67. CALGARY FLAMES
Keegan Kanzig – (D) Victoria Royals, WHL:
Gigantic wingspan helps him get stick-on-puck, take away passing lanes, and shut down attackers. Takes a while to get up to top speed. Doesn't have an explosive first step. His pivots are slow and his transition footwork is nothing to be envious of. Often beat by speed in transition. Has a powerful point shot and is a good passer, but struggles under duress from forecheckers.
68. DALLAS STARS (acquired from Edmonton in exchange for Mark Fistric)
69. BUFFALO SABRES
70. NEW YORK ISLANDERS (acquired from Minnesota today, which came from New Jersey in the Marek Zidlicky trade)

86. MONTRÉAL CANADIENS
87. ANAHEIM DUCKS
88. EDMONTON OILERS
89. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
Oliver Bjorkstrand – (RW) Portland Winterhawks, WHL:
Great arsenal of wrist, snap, and one-time shots. Smooth skater, not incredibly fast, but can change gears quickly, allowing him to be slippery on the rush. Willing to join in when the game gets physical, but doesn’t thrive under those circumstances. Great along the boards, but escapes using his hands, not by using his body.
90. BOSTON BRUINS
91. WINNIPEG JETS (acquired from Chicago in exchange for Johnny Oduya)

Sixth Round
First Round
1. COLORADO AVALANCHE
Nathan MacKinnon – (C) Halifax
Mooseheads, QMJHL:
An
offensive powerhouse. His shot is lethal at all times and has been compared to
Steven Stamkos’ shooting ability. His competitiveness is at a very high level
and is on display every shift. He has the ability to make plays at max speed.
He has a “shoot first” instead of a “pass first” mentality, but that is not to
be confused with selfishness or lack of hockey sense.
Aleksander
Barkov
– (C) Tappara, SM-liiga (Finland):
A
first rate playmaker and stickhandler, it seems sometimes that there’s no deke
he can’t do and no pass he can’t make. He turns all four of his teammates on
the ice into immediate scoring threats. He plays in all situations and is
reliable in his own zone. His skating is not top notch, but should not hold him
back too much at the NHL level.
3. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
Jonathan Drouin – (LW) Halifax
Mooseheads, QMJHL:
Excels
at almost all aspects of the game. A strong, illusive skater, great passer, and
he has incredibly soft, skillful hands. His shot is not too impressive, but he
always knows where to be to put himself in prime scoring positions. Manages the
puck extremely well in tight spaces. Out of all his outstanding qualities, his
hockey sense is by far his greatest asset.
4. NASHVILLE PREDATORS
Seth Jones – (D) Portland
Winterhawks, WHL:
He
has the physical stature and smarts to be a shut-down defenseman in his own
zone. His shot is powerful and accurate, and he can pass the puck effectively,
too. Skates extraordinarily well for a 6’4”, 200 lbs.+ d-man, and will
rush the puck up the ice with ease. All of this accumulates to give him that
innate “game-changer” ability.
5. CAROLINA HURRICANES
Elias Lindholm – (LW/C)
Brynäs, Elitserien (Sweden):
An
excellent playmaker with great vision and hands. Brings a tenacious effort at
both ends of the rink. He’s strong on the puck, hard to knock off the puck
despite his small size. He has a bit of an awkward-looking stride, but he’s
still balanced and gets from A to B very quickly. His shot is a little better
than average, easily the weakest of his offensive tools.
6. CALGARY FLAMES
Sean Monahan - (C) Ottawa 67's, OHL:
Has size and plays a very responsible two-way game. Very effective at both ends of the ice due to his smarts and determined nature. Has good skill and a good shot, but could work on his skating a bit more. His playmaking vision is exceptional. Great one-on-one stick skills.
7. EDMONTON OILERS
Darnell Nurse – (D) Sault
Ste. Marie Greyhounds, OHL:
An
agile, swift skating defenseman who always keeps an active stick to disrupt
opposing offense. He always seems to find ways to get into open passing lanes
from the point in the offensive zone. He is a good passer, too, but must learn
to make his decisions quicker. Tough as nails.
8. BUFFALO SABRES
Rasmus
Ristolainen
– (D) TPS, SM-liiga (Finland):
A
defenseman who plays with a calmness and maturity beyond his years. Passes the
puck very well, and is always strong on his stick to make smart plays to get
the puck out of his zone. Reliable defender and will move bodies around in
front of his net. Top power play unit potential. Packs a hard, heavy slap shot
from the point, one of the best in this year’s class.
New Jersey trades the 9th overall selection to the
Vancouver Canucks for goaltender Cory Schneider
Bo Horvat – (C) London
Knights, OHL:
There
isn’t much he isn’t good at. Always plays a motivated, courageous, smart game.
Hits well, creates problems for defenders on the forecheck, and is hard to
knock off the puck. Very well-positioned in his own end. Has a good shot and
likes to set up in the slot, but gets most goals around the crease. Only issue
is he is a below average skating and agility.
10. DALLAS STARS
Valery
Nichushkin
– (LW) Traktor Chelyabinsk, KHL:
Has
every offensive tool in his arsenal. A sniper with speed, size, and great
hands. His big body and skill combo allow him to make more plays in tough areas
around the net than most kids his age. Has been criticized for not looking for
open teammates enough. He has proven himself to be a clutch, game-breaker at
the World Juniors and KHL playoffs.
11. PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
Samuel Morin – (D) Rimouski
Océanic, QMJHL:
6’7”
defenseman with offensive upside. In a straight line, his speed is impressive
for his size, but his transition footwork and agility need a lot of work.
Doesn’t lose many puck battles and effectively boxes men out in front of his
net. Good first pass and a hard slap shot, too.
12. PHOENIX COYOTES
Max Domi – (C) London
Knights, OHL:
Don’t
let his small stature fool you, he is incredibly strong and hard to knock off
the puck. His stickhandling skills are first rate and he has a rocket of a
wrist shot that can score from anywhere in the offensive zone. The consistency
of his focus in his own zone leaves a bit to be desired. Also, between-the-legs
sauce.
That is all.
Minnesota sends forward Cal Clutterbuck and the 70th pick
Minnesota sends forward Cal Clutterbuck and the 70th pick
to NY Islanders in exchange for forward Nino Niederreiter
13. WINNIPEG JETS
Josh Morrissey – (D) Prince
Albert Raiders, WHL:
A
textbook breakout quarterback. Has a great first pass and incredible skating and
agility that allows him to rush the puck or get out of trouble. He is capable
of running the point on the power play and getting shots through from the blue
line. He will step up and deliver big open ice hits, but is rarely physical
when defending in his own zone.
14. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
Alexander Wennberg – (C) Djurgårdens, Allsvenskan (Sweden):
An excellent passer and two-way center, Alex has
all the tools to make him an effective player on the rush. Sees the ice very
well, distributes the puck to his teammates with ease. Has a pretty good
release, but does not have a "true scorer's" touch around the net.
Skates hunched over and has a short, choppy stride. Makes up for it with rapid,
strong leg movement, but could be even faster with some technical refinement to
his stride.
15. NEW YORK ISLANDERS
Ryan Pulock – (D) Brandon
Wheat Kings, WHL:
Possesses
an absolute rocket of a shot, maybe the best of this draft class. Makes great
decisions on the rush and in every zone. Plays a mature, composed game in his
own end, but definitely needs to up his physicality. Can move up the ice
quickly, and has outstanding agility.
16. BUFFALO SABRES (acquired from Minnesota in the Jason Pominville / Matt Hackett trade)
Nikita Zadorov – (D) London
Knights, OHL:
A
big body on the back-end who plays mean and is threatening at both ends of the
ice. If you come into his territory in his zone, he’ll make you pay. If you
leave him unattended at the point on the o-zone, he can make you pay with his
cannon of a shot. A very agile skater.
17. OTTAWA SENATORS
Curtis Lazar – (C) Edmonton
Oil Kings, WHL:
A
smart player with many offensive tools. He has an excellent shot, he’s a good
passer, and has great acceleration when skating north-south. Effective on
special teams. Plays a safe game, and his mistakes (if any) are made from not
doing something as opposed to trying to do too much. His statistical production
waned early in this past season, but he picked up the pace in the second half.
Detroit trades the 18th overall pick to
San Jose for picks 20 and 58 overall
18. SAN JOSE SHARKS (acquired from Detroit in trade today for picks 20 and 58 overall)
Mirco Müller – (D) Everett
Silvertips, WHL:
A
very fluid and smooth skater, he can effortlessly rush the puck out of his own
zone using his size and agility, although his top speed when going north-south
could use improvement. Passes very well and is usually well-positioned. Can man
the point on the power play and is willing to go into the corners and battle
physically to win one-on-one battles.
19. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS (acquired from NY Rangers in the Rick Nash trade)
Kerby Rychel – (C) Windsor
Spitfires, OHL:
A
pure goal-scorer and power forward, he possesses a wicked wrist shot with great
accuracy. Excels in aggressive, physical situations and pushes himself to win
every puck battle. Great NFP. Plays responsibly in his d-zone. An adequate
puck-handler, but do not expect him to dangle past anyone.
20. DETROIT RED WINGS (acquired from San Jose today in exchange for the 18th overall pick)
Anthony Mantha – (LW) Val d’Or
Foreurs, QMJHL:
A strong skater with good speed for someone who is 6’3”. He has a good sense of where to be to score and the timing necessary to set-up teammates for scoring chances. Excellent shot that allows him to score from anywhere. And I mean an excellent shot. Only 50 goal scorer in this draft class. Plays painfully soft in some games.

Excellent shot that allows him to score from anywhere. And I mean an excellent shot. Only 50 goal scorer in this draft class. Plays painfully soft in some games.
21. TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
Frédérik
Gauthier
– (C) Rimouski Océanic, QMJHL:
Impresses
everyone with his two-way game. Defensive instincts are incredible for someone
his age. Improved his speed during the 2012-13 season, but still has a lot to
work to do with his footspeed and lateral movement. Shows tons of promise on
the offensive side of the puck, though he’s still raw. Sometimes criticized for
not using his size to his advantage enough.
22. CALGARY FLAMES (acquired from St. Louis in exchange for Jay Bouwmeester)
Émile Poirier – (LW) Gatineau
Olympiques, QMJHL:
Playmaking
winger with great vision and passing ability. Improved his overall game a lot
in 2012-13. Worked hard to improve his awkward stride, adding more speed to his
game. Accelerates well and explodes out of a stationary position. Makes great
moves in tight spaces. Backchecks hard. His positioning in his own end is
inconsistent and likely needs tutoring.
23. WASHINGTON CAPITALS
Andre Burakowsky – (LW) Malmö
Redhawks, Allsvenskan (Sweden):
An
elite skater. Puts defenders on their heels with his explosive speed. His
stickhandling is top-notch, too, and he can pull off moves at his high speed. Will
drive hard to the net and go battle in the corners, but can get pushed around
once he’s there. Has good vision and gives hard, crisp passes, but sometimes
opts for the extra move for himself rather than distribute the puck.
24. VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Hunter Shinkaruk – (LW) Medicine
Hat Tigers, WHL:
A
player with a lot of offensive smarts and a competitive attitude. Has great
hands and makes good plays in tight areas. He skates very well, and will
backcheck hard on every shift. Great leader and will never quit. Plays with an
edge, but his size prevents him from being a physical force.
25. MONTRÉAL CANADIENS
Michael McCarron – (RW) USNTDP,
USHL:
6’5”
kid brings offense and a defensive-minded game to go with his physical
presence. Very effective net-front presence. Backchecks with a purpose. Good speed considering
his size, but predictably lacks agility. Turns very wide and slowly. The
consistency of his effort has been questioned.
26. ANAHEIM DUCKS
Shea Theodore – (D)
Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL:
Impressive agility that cannot go unnoticed. His
skating is definitely the hallmark of his game. Passes well. Plays with tons of
energy and he has shown the willingness to learn and correct mistakes
immediately. Needs to improve his physical play and add muscle if he wants to
be efficient at the pro level. Currently lacks the strength to do well against
stronger opponents in the corners.
27. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
Marko Daňo – (RW) Slovan
Bratislava, KHL:
Strong
bodied and smart in all three zones, a solid combo. Takes a while to get up to
top speed, but is very fast once he gets there. Good on his edges. Battles
physically all over the ice with opponents of all body types, and creates
offensive opportunities as a result. Strong, accurate shot.
28. CALGARY FLAMES (acquired from Pittsburgh in the Jarome Iginla trade)
Morgan Klimchuk – (C/LW) Regina
Pats, WHL:
Sniping
is the name of Morgan Klimchuk’s game. He’s threatening from anywhere in the
offensive zone and will pick corners with his lethal shot if given time and
space. Can pass very well, too. Good sauce, a very valuable asset. He skates
well in a straight line, but his agility needs improvement. Competes every shift.
29. DALLAS STARS (acquired from Boston in the Jaromir Jagr trade)
Jason Dickinson – (C/LW) Guelph
Storm, OHL:
Has
leadership “intangibles” to go along with his gritty, physical, and smart game.
Crashes hard to net and blocks shots. Has a high hockey IQ for all three zones.
Puck-handling skills are top notch, but he needs to learn to get more mustard
on his shots. Could become an extremely dangerous player if he continues to
develop at his current pace. Soooo much upside.
30. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
Ryan Hartman – (RW) Plymouth
Whalers, OHL:
A
very physical player who has some skill to his game. The most noticeable and
valuable asset to his game is his compete level. Ryan plays every shift to win
and never takes a game off. Not afraid to knock bodies around, and can play a
bit of an agitator’s role if he sees fit. He is capable of being an impact
player at the pro level, but his scoring upside is still unknown.
Second Round
31. FLORIDA PANTHERS
Ian McCoshen – (D) Waterloo
Black Hawks, USHL:
Utilizes
hitting for its primary function: not to punish, but to separate your opponent
from the puck. Difficult to beat one-on-one. Effectively runs a power play with
crisp passing and a heavy shot from the point. A strong skater with speed
(forwards or backwards) who’s hard to knock off the puck, but his pivots and transition
edgework must improve. Reliable in his own end.
32. COLORADO AVALANCHE
Chris Bigras – (D) Owen
Sound Attack, OHL:
Rock-solid
defender who is very affluent in the fundamentals of playing in his own zone.
Thinks the game well and processes the ebbs and flows of the game quickly. His
shot isn’t very impressive, but he makes sharp exit passes from his own zone
and on regroups. Needs to get more physical in front of his own net and improve
his speed. Still has great edgework and lateral movement.
33. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
Adam Erne – (LW/RW)
Québec Remparts, QMJHL:
Plays
a game much bigger than his 6’1” frame. Will dish out powerful hits and win
puck battles along the boards against much bigger opponents. Great offensive
arsenal, including a strong, quick release, great handles, creativity, and
natural offensive instincts. Has slow footwork and will look to improve his
positioning in his own end.
34. MONTRÉAL CANADIENS (acquired from Nashville in exchange for Andrei Kostitsyn)
Jacob de la Rose – (LW)
Leksands, Allsvenskan (Sweden):
Combines
physicality with skill. Impressive on the forecheck and loves to disrupt
opponents’ attack with solid defensive play. Often relied on late in games and
on the PK. Explosive acceleration and quick feet. Doesn’t seem to score as much
as he should considering his skills.
Carolina trades the 35th overall pick and
Jamie McBain to Buffalo for Andrej Sekera
J.T. Compher – (C) USNTDP,
USHL:
His
game is defined by his endless effort on both ends of the ice. Will forecheck
hard and backchecks like a demon. Has a good wrist shot, too. Positions himself
well in the d-zone. Far from physically mature, but adding size and muscle will
only help his game.
36. MONTRÉAL CANADIENS (acquired from Calgary in the Mike Cammalleri / Rene Bourque trade)
Zach Fucale – (G) Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL:
A
smart goalie whose athleticism and determination allow him to keep him team in
any game. He is always on his angle and covers the open area of the net
extremely well for a 5’11” netminder playing in a world where bigger goalies
are all the rage. Very mature and stays calm in net.
37. LOS ANGELES KINGS (acquired from Edmonton today in a pick swap)
Valentin Zykov – (RW)
Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL:
A
competitive offensive talent that has great awareness and a knack for getting
to open areas to score. He plays extremely well along the boards and handles
the puck well in traffic. His speed is acceptable, but his agility could use
improvement. Quick-release wrist shot is lethal.
38. BUFFALO SABRES
Connor Hurley – (LW/C) Edina
Hornets, High School (MN):
Pass-first
playmaker with tons of speed, agility, and balance. Explosive first few steps.
Lacks muscle, but he’s also the youngest player available in this draft. You
can tell he’s always thinking several steps ahead of the play, whether he’s in
the offensive zone or d-zone. Has a good wrist shot but seems reluctant to use
it.
39. PHOENIX COYOTES
Laurent Dauphin – (C)
Chicoutimi Saguenéens, QMJHL:
Has
a strong skill set to go with his above average hockey sense. Shoots hard and
accurate. He’s very agile, but his top speed is nothing too great. Always
willing to go hard to the net. He’s never shy on effort, but he still needs to
improve his d-zone positioning.
40. DALLAS STARS
Remi Elie – (LW) London
Knights, OHL:
Plays
the game in a “pro-style” according to many scouts, meaning his game is defined
by his head and his willingness to go into dirty areas. Shows great playmaking
sense, and often appears to see one play ahead. Always makes “safe” plays. Plays with an edge and always competes. Has
a very powerful wrist shot and one-timer.
Toronto receives Dave Bolland from Chicago for
picks 51, 117, and a 4th round pick in 2014
41. PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
Robert Hägg – (D) MODO,
Elitserien (Sweden):
Two-way
defenseman with great mobility. Uses his high-end acceleration to either lead
or join the rush. His physical game is inconsistent. Some games he’ll body
everyone up while others he’s very passive. Generally, he plays a good
defensive game. Powerful slapper. Needs to learn to play with more confidence.
42. NEW JERSEY DEVILS
Steve Santini – (D) – USNTDP,
USHL:
A
strong, fluent skater who plays a very pronounced physical game. Reads the play
well, helping him play an effective shut-down game. Great gap control. Has a
strong slap shot from the point. Passes well, but Santini himself admits he’d
like to improve his vision.
43. WINNIPEG JETS
Nicolas Petan – (C) Portland
Winterhawks, WHL:
Displays
great hands in traffic and is a danger to score at all times. Possesses a good
shot, which can become a great shot if given time and space. Great speed in his hands and in his feet. He plays with
determination and is always hungry for the puck in the offensive zone.44. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
Tristan Jarry – (G) Edmonton
Oil Kings, WHL:
A
mentally strong goalie with decent size and athleticism. Has some of the best
lateral movement in the WHL, and can recover quickly. Isn’t incredibly flexible
and becomes fatigued a little sooner than preferable. Shows good rebound
control. Covers the bottom of the net well.
45. ANAHEIM DUCKS (acquired from NY Islanders in in exchange for Lubomir Visnovsky)
Nick Sørensen – (RW) Québec
Remparts, QMJHL:
A
speedy skillster who can burn defenders with his stride or a deke in the blink
of an eye. He plays responsibly in his own end, and uses his speed to his
advantage on the backcheck. Doesn’t play very physical. Sometimes he gets
caught watching the play develop instead of reacting to it.
46. MINNESOTA WILD
Gustav Olofsson – (D) Green Bay
Gamblers, USHL:
Smart
defender with size. Sound positioning in his own zone. Always has his stick in
passing lanes and good at deflecting shots. Strong forward stride, and has
excellent mobility in all directions. Has little skill to his name, but is
still a strong passer. Not much of a shooter.
47. ST. LOUIS BLUES (acquired from Ottawa in exchange for Ben Bishop)
Tommy Vannelli – (D) USNTDP,
USHL:
Assertive,
offensive defenseman with great speed in both his forwards and backwards
skating. Engages opponents physically in his own zone. His skating and long
reach make him hard to beat one-on-one, but his overall defensive game needs
work. Passes and protects the puck well. Needs time to develop and add some much needed muscle.48. DETROIT RED WINGS
Zach Nastasiuk – (C/RW) Owen
Sound Attack, OHL:
High
compete level to go with excellent hockey sense. Has a full complement of hard
and accurate shots. Goes to the corners, in fact, many scouts are impressed by
his work on the cycle, but he isn’t a big hitter. Needs to spend a lot of time
working on his skating and agility.
49. SAN JOSE SHARKS (acquired from NY Rangers in exchange for Ryane Clowe)
Gabryel
Paquin-Boudreau
– (LW/RW) Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL:
Has
good speed, agility, acceleration, and he handles the puck very well while at
top speed. Pushes the pace every game. His high-end offensive skills allow him
to make creative plays in the o-zone. Shows the willingness to play physical,
but needs to get stronger. Defensive game needs tutoring.
50. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
Dillon
Heatherington
– (D) Swift Current Broncos, WHL:
Has
a large frame and uses his long reach well. Rarely beat one-on-one. Exceptional
puck-moving skills. As far as offensive production is concerned, goal-scoring
isn’t his forte, but he can set up teammates well on the rush or in the
offensive zone. Has a strong stride and good mobility for a player his size,
too.
51. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
Carl Dahlström – (D)
Linköpings J20, SuperElit (Sweden):
Tall
defender with a cerebral approach to the game. Reads the play in front of him
very well, and often makes quick, safe decisions. Has good puck handling skills
and a strong first pass. Calm under pressure. Is still adjusting his coordination
to his body in some aspects. Will take time to develop.
52. BUFFALO SABRES (acquired from St. Louis in exchange for Jordan Leopold)
Justin Bailey – (RW)
Kitchener Rangers, OHL:
He’s
a player who loves to score more than anyone else, but is always conscious of
his defensive responsibilities. Has a wicked shot and tries to use his high-end
skill to dance around defenders. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Knows how to use his 6’3”, 185lbs body to protect the puck. Most scouts want to
see him throw his weight around more in the dirty areas.
53. WASHINGTON CAPITALS
Madison
Bowey
– (D) Kelowna Rockets, WHL:
He’s
agile like a cat and has great wheels when skating north-south. Needs to
improve his play in his own zone and his hockey sense in both zones is
questionable. Possesses a heavy slap shot from the point. Can be expected to
log power play minutes the NHL someday.
54. DALLAS STARS (acquired from Vancouver in exchange for Derek Roy)
Philippe
Desrosiers
– (G) Rimouski Océanic, QMJHL:
A
very athletic netminder with solid rebound control and absorbs almost all pucks
that hit him above the waist. Has a lightning-fast glove and handles the puck
behind his net very well. Took great strides in improving his footspeed in
2012-13, but it still needs work. Reads and anticipates the play very well and positions himself accordingly.
55. MONTRÉAL CANADIENS
Artturi Lehkonen – (RW) KalPa,
SM-liiga (Finland):
A
skater with great speed and a strong stride. Backchecks with frequency and
competes hard enough to show penalty killing possibility at the NHL level. Has
a nose for finding the soft, scoring areas in the offensive zone. Has a
shoot-first mentality, but is capable of dishing a good pass, too.
56. EDMONTON OILERS (acquired from Anaheim in exchange for Andrew Cogliano)
Marc-Olivier Roy – (RW)
Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, QMJHL:
Smart,
all-situations player who works his tail off every night. Has the skill to beat
defenders one-on-two and is hungry in front of the net, too. Despite not having
much muscle, he’ll battle along the wall. Has a Hemi engine for speed, which he
uses perfectly on the rush and the backcheck. Quick release and an accurate
shot, but it isn’t the most overpowering.
57. ST. LOUIS BLUES
William Carrier – (LW) Cape
Breton Screaming Eagles, QMJHL:
Does
not have any outstanding features, but has developed to have no real weakness
in his game. He plays very smart at both ends of the ice, has good skill, and
while he’s a good north-south skater, he could work on his agility. Over the
course of the 2012-13 season, Carrier has proved he can play more aggressive
and physical than critics once perceived.
58. DETROIT RED WINGS (acquired from San Jose today in exchange for the 18th overall pick, which came from Pittsburgh in exchange
for Douglas Murray)
Tyler Bertuzzi – (LW) Guelph
Storm, OHL:
Pesky
agitator who takes great pleasure in getting deep beneath his opponents’ skin. Hits
hard and is very effective on the forecheck. Adding muscle mass would help his
game even more. Prone to taking stupid penalties. A smooth skater with above
average acceleration, and he can turn on a dime. Decent skill set, but no “wow”
factor to his offensive game.
59. WINNIPEG JETS (compensatory pick)
Eric Comrie – (G) Tri-City
Americans, WHL:
A
well-rounded goalie with his glove-hand probably being his strongest asset.
Positions himself well and has exceptional reflexes. Like most young goalies,
needs to work on mentally responding to giving up a goal or two. Had his
2012-13 season in Tri-City ended abruptly by a hip injury that required
surgery.
60. BOSTON BRUINS
Linus Arnesson – (D) Djurgårdens, Allsvenskan (Sweden):
Plays
a mistake-free defensive defenseman’s game. Plays tough, and strong skating
ability and agility allows him to cover a wide radius. Has little to no
offensive upside, though he has shown strong breakout passing on a game-to-game
basis.
61. WASHINGTON CAPITALS
Zach Sanford – (LW)
Middlesex Islanders, EJHL:
Does
a lot of things well, but nothing great. He shows upside in all of these areas,
though. Always in proper position in every zones. His stride is a little
awkward and could add some acceleration, but his footwork is solid. Good
backhander and potent slap shot from the slot. Is unafraid of the dirty areas
and can make plays with the puck at his full speed and in traffic.
Third Round
62. PHOENIX COYOTES (acquired from San Jose in exchange for Raffi Torres, which came from NY Rangers in the Ryane Clowe deal)
Yan-Pavel
Laplante
– (LW) P.E.I. Rocket, QMJHL:
Forechecking
demon with great speed. Plays with an elite energy level. Not great puck-handling
skills, if he beats a defender it will be with his speed, not with moves. Good
shot, but seems unconfident. Irritates opponents with his style of play mixed
with some true “agitator instinct”.
63. COLORADO AVALANCHE
Spencer Martin – (G)
Mississauga Steelheads, OHL:
Sharp
reflexes, flexibility, and athleticism are the hallmarks of Martin’s game.
Moves well laterally and can go post-to-post very quickly. He works well in
traffic and will always be square to the puck for the first save. Tends to
over-commit sometimes and find himself out of position on broken plays. Needs
to improve his rebound control.
64. NASHVILLE PREDATORS (acquired from Tampa Bay in the Anders Lindback trade)
Jonathan-Ismael
Diaby
– (D) Victoriaville Tigres, QMJHL:
Big
d-man with no shortage of effort. Hits hard and is willing to sacrifice his
body for teammates. Clears the crease with ease at the junior level. Has good
speed, but needs to spend time working on his footwork and transition game. Doesn’t
always read the play well.
65. NEW YORK RANGERS (acquired from Nashville in exchange for NY Rangers' 3rd round pick in 2012)
Adam Tambellini – (LW)
Surray Eagles, BCHL:
Soft hands allow him to make nice one-touch,
quick releases to his heavy shot. Has a healthy patience with the puck in the
o-zone. His skating technique is good, but more leg strength would help his
acceleration and balance. Tends to get lazy in his own zone or grow
disinterested in engaging in the dirty areas. Dominated the offensive game in
the BCHL.
66. CAROLINA HURRICANES
Brett Pesce – (D)
University of New Hampshire, NCAA:
A
blueliner with incredible poise when handling the puck. He is capable of both
rushing the puck and making a crisp first pass. Always plays a calm, cool and
collected game, but will likely mature into using his 6’3” frame in the
physical game with more frequency. Off-ice workaholic.
Niklas Hansson – (D) Rögle,
Elitserien (Sweden):
Defenseman
with lots of skill who makes his living on the rush. Passes well, and is an
agile skater. Slippery and calm under pressure. Has a knack for finding passing
lanes, and then threads the needle. He needs to get stronger and he doesn’t
like contact. Sometimes caught flat-footed in his own end. Great on the man
advantage, but his shot velocity needs to improve.
69. BUFFALO SABRES
Nick Baptiste – (RW) Sudbury
Wolves, OHL:
A
very fast north-south skater with a strong stride, but could improve his
agility. Shows willingness to engage physically and works well down low and
along the wall. Plays in all situations. His shot strength an accuracy are
good, not great, but his quick trigger fools goalies.
70. NEW YORK ISLANDERS (acquired from Minnesota today, which came from New Jersey in the Marek Zidlicky trade)
Eamon McAdam – (G) Waterloo Black Hawks, USHL
71. MONTRÉAL CANADIENS (acquired from Dallas in the Erik Cole / Michael Ryder trade)
Connor Crisp – (LW) Erie Otters, OHL
72. PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
Tyrell Goulbourne – (LW) Kelowna Rockets, WHL
73. NEW JERSEY DEVILS
Ryan Kujawinski – (C) Kingston
Frontenacs, OHL:
Smart,
skilled centerman with some size and speed. Plays a responsible defensive game
in addition to being an offensive threat. Has a shoot-first mentality. Is never
short on effort, but is at his best when playing “mean”. Some worry about his
scoring ability at the NHL level.
74. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
John Hayden – (C/RW)
USNTDP, USHL:
Big
body who plays a tough game. Blocks shots, wins battles along the walls and in
the corners, crashes hard to the net and can serve as a strong screen. Works
very hard on and off the ice. His hands are much better than most grinders, and
it helps his offensive production a lot, though he has a bad habit of missing
the net. Gets caught “puck watching” in his own zone at times.
75. NEW YORK RANGERS (acquired from NY Rangers in the Rick Nash trade)
Pavel Buchnevich – (LW/C) Severstal
Cherepovets, KHL:
Causes
problems for defenders one-on-one and along the wall. Fearless forechecker with
soft hands. Loves to use the defense a screen and release a heavy wrist shot.
Skating is top notch. Quick feet and great acceleration. Defensive game needs
lots of coaching. Off-ice work ethic non-existant.
76. NEW YORK ISLANDERS
Taylor Cammarata – (C) Waterloo Black Hawks, USHL
77. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS (Ok, PIT got it from DAL in the Brenden Morrow deal, who got it from PHI in exchange for Nicklas
Grossman, who got it from MIN in exchange for Darroll Powe)
Jake Guentzel – (C) Sioux
City Musketeers, USHL:
Cerebral
playmaker with a high hockey IQ and quick snap shot. Masks his intentions from
defenders and will then strike at a moment’s notice. Agile skater with
excellent lateral movement. Summons a more gritty game when he has to, but at
155 lbs., he gets knocked around. Defensively, his positioning isn’t always
perfect, but he’ll always give 100%.
78. OTTAWA SENATORS
Marcus Högberg – (G)
Linköpings J20, SuperElit (Sweden):
Technically
sound butterfly goalie. Uses his technique and quick legs to eliminate most
scoring chances down low. Shows tons of poise and does not appear intimidated
by big games. Doesn’t absorb the puck all the time and has trouble controlling
rebounds. Often beat high.
79. DETROIT RED WINGS
Mattias Janmark-Nylén – (C/LW) AIK, Elitserien (Sweden)
80. NEW YORK RANGERS
Anthony Duclair – (LW) Québec
Remparts, QMJHL:
Crazy good speed and
dangles, accelerates with the best of them. A very shifty skater and
stickhandler. High offensive acumen, but needs to simplify his decision making
at times. Will sometimes poke at pucks instead of taking the extra stride or
taking the hit to make the play
81. MINNESOTA WILD (acquired from San Jose in exchange for James Sheppard)
Kurtis Gabriel – (RW) Owen Sound Attack, OHL
82. TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
Carter Verhaeghe – (C) Niagara
IceDogs, OHL:
Quick,
two-way presence with a nose for the net. Increased his leg strength over the
season, and thus increased his explosiveness to go with his established outside
speed. Proficient face-off man and is reliable in his own end. Sometimes he’s
tentative to go into battles deep in the o-zone. Scouts cannot seem to agree on
the quickness of his release and his natural scoring ability.
83. EDMONTON OILERS
Bogdan Yakimov – (C) Reaktor
Nezhnekamsk, MHL (Russia):
A big, strong centerman who is difficult to
separate from the puck. Fantastic hands. Above average agility, even for
someone his size, but would benefit from more north-south speed. Great in the
face-off circle. Heavy shot, quick release. Tends to fumble the puck or lose
track of the play when at top speed or when the game’s tempo picks up.
84. WINNIPEG JETS
Jimmy Lodge – (C) Saginaw
Spirit, OHL:
This
past season, he matured into a player who will engage himself physically and go
into the corners, putting to rest his reputation as a softie. Will be a project
in terms of development, but he’s already a talented playmaker with a lethal
wrist shot, and shows the willingness to put in all the work necessary to
become the best player he can. Needs to improve d-zone positioning.
85. VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Cole Cassels – (C) Oshawa
Generals, OHL:
Two-way
centerman who’s excellent in the face-off circle. Shows great playmaking sense
and passing ability, and he’s always well-positioned in his own end. Not very
big or strong, but will battle along the boards. Lacks a quick first step, and
his top gear is average at best.
86. MONTRÉAL CANADIENS
Sven Andrighetto – (RW)
Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, QMJHL:
Undrafted
in 2011 and 2012, he’s undersized but works tirelessly on and off the ice.
Plays a responsible two-way game, a concern going in to previous drafts. Has
soft hands and a quick release. Has good playmaking sense and does a good job
of selling defenders he wants to make one play, and then completes another.
Skates hunched over, but still has speed and great agility.
87. ANAHEIM DUCKS
Keaton Thompson – (D)
USNTDP, USHL:
A defenseman with tons of confidence with the
puck. Perhaps overconfidence. He can make exceptional passes out of his zone,
but is prone to a big gaffe every now and then. Plays physical and projects as
an all-situations d-man at the pro level. “His good play to bad play ratio is
about seven or eight to one. I’ll take that,” said TSN analyst and DraftCentre
scout Craig Button.
88. EDMONTON OILERS
Anton Slepyshev – (LW) Ufa, KHL:
Shows
spectacular puck control in traffic, and has demonstrated the ability to weave
in, out, and past defenders. Good finish. Strong, smooth skater. He does not
like to play in the dirty areas or engage in very physical play, but he still
demonstrates a high compete level.
Peter Cehlárik – (LW) Luleå,
Elitserien (Sweden):
Isn’t
a very good skater. His stride is sloppy, and he isn’t fast at all. However, he
shows good footwork. Has great playmaking instincts and knows how to use his
big frame to his advantage. Hard to knock off the puck or beat in a puck battle
(when he feels like it). Prone to streaks of soft play. Can be trusted to bury
loose pucks and other prime scoring opportunities.
91. WINNIPEG JETS (acquired from Chicago in exchange for Johnny Oduya)
J.C. Lipon – (RW) Kamloops
Blazers, WHL:
Undrafted
in 2011 and 2012, Lipon thrived in an increased role in Kamloops this season.
Has plenty of speed to make him an effective player on the rush, and has shown
the hockey IQ to be a playmaker and get himself into scoring areas. Though he
has a physical edge to his game, he struggled in a bottom-six role for Canada
at the World Juniors.
Fourth Round
92. FLORIDA PANTHERS
Evan Cowlie – (G) Wichita
Falls Wildcats, NAHL:
He
positions himself incredibly well and displays great athleticism. He stays very
calm and cool in net, and rarely overreacts by lunging or flopping around when
unnecessary. He needs to improve his glove hand positioning, and can
over-commit to shooters on breakaways/shootouts.
93. COLORADO AVALANCHE
Mason Geertsen – (D) Vancouver
Giants, WHL:
Big,
strong d-man with a mean streak. Effectively rubs out opponents along the wall,
but throws heavy open-ice hits, too. Defensive zone positioning and gap control
need a lot of work, though. ADD in his end, at times. Not particularly fast,
but doesn’t trip up in the transition game.
94. EDMONTON OILERS (acquired from STL today, who got it from TB in the BJ Crombeen trade)
Jackson Houck – (RW)
Vancouver Giants, WHL:
A
physical forward with offensive upside. Often forces turnovers as a result of
his strong, solid bodychecks. Can stickhandle in a phone booth and has a knack
for getting shots off in tight spaces. Usually makes smart passes, but needs to
make his decisions quicker. Could use some more muscle, but he’s already hard
to knock off the puck.
95. NASHVILLE PREDATORS
Felix Girard – (C) Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL
96. EDMONTON OIILERS (acquired from LA today, who got it from CAR in the Anthony Stewart / Kevin Westgarth trade)
Kyle Platzer – (C) London Knights, OHL
97. FLORIDA PANTHERS (acquired in a trade with Calgary for the rights to Corban Knight)
Michael Downing – (D) Dubuque
Fighting Saints, USHL:
Physical
player with a long reach that helps him frequently get stick-on-puck. A smooth,
strong skater, but gets into trouble against agile, shifty opponents. His
hockey sense outside of his own end is non-existent, and he’s guilty of making
poor decisions with the puck sometimes. Does possess a heavy shot, though.
98. FLORIDA PANTHERS (acquired from Edmonton in exchange for Jarred Smithson)
Matt Buckles – (C) St.
Michael’s Buzzers, OJHL:
Always
committed to hard work and making the right play. Most of the scoring chances
he creates come from his relentlessness in puck battles. His puck-handling
skills are below average.
99. NASHVILLE PREDATORS (acquired from Buffalo in the Paul Gaustad trade)
Juuse Saros – (G) HPK U20,
Jr.-A SM-liiga (Finland):
Best
asset is his compete level. He battles on pucks until he freezes it or it ends
up behind him. So quick, not just post-to-post, but also up and down, and he
won’t be thrown out of position by his quick movements, either. Typical Finnish
tendy, takes away the entire bottom of the net. Short, so he can get picked apart
up high by natural snipers, but he still boasts a strong glove.
100. NEW JERSEY DEVILS
Miles Wood – (LW) Noble & Greenough Bulldogs, High School (MA)
101. DALLAS STARS
Nicholas Paul – (LW) Brampton
Battalion, OHL:
“Wing who is improving his overall speed
and skating to go with his powerful stride. Displays good hands and stick.
Excellent stick-handler and strong on the puck. Tough to play against and also
can drop 'em. A first year player who shows huge upside.” – Bill Placzek, DraftSite.com
102. OTTAWA SENATORS (acquired from Tampa Bay in the Ben Bishop / Cory Conacher trade, which came from Philadelphia in the
Pavel Kubina trade)
Tobias Lindberg – (RW) Djurgårdens J20, SuperElit (Sweden)
103. LOS ANGELES KINGS (Alright, this pick came from PHI in exchange for Simon Gagne, which PHI received from CBJ in the
Sergei Bobrovsky trade, which came from PHX when they acquired Antoine Vermette)
Justin Auger – (RW) Guelph Storm, OHL
104. WINNIPEG JETS
Andrew Copp – (C) University of Michigan, NCAA
105. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
Nick Moutrey – (RW) Saginaw
Spirit, OHL:
Rugged
power forward whose solid hits and smarts make him strong on the forecheck.
Likes to go to the front of the net. Shows soft hands, but still isn’t very
skilled. Stride is strong, though he takes a while to get going and lacks
agility. Great snapshot and gives crisp passes, but not a true playmaker. Will
thrive in a system that preaches puck support.
106. NEW YORK ISLANDERS
Stephon Williams – (G) Minnesota State University-Mankato, NCAA
107. MINNESOTA WILD
Dylan Labbé – (D) Shawinigan Cataractes, QMJHL
108. OTTAWA SENATORS
Ben Harpur – (D) Guelph Storm, OHL
109. DETROIT RED WINGS
David Pope – (LW) West
Kelowna Warriors, BCHL:
Skilled
forward with a lethal shot with a quick release that fools both defenders and
goalies. Creeps into slot with perfect timing to catch passes and then fire on
goal. Not afraid to get physical, but tossed around like a rag doll. The must
become his best friend soon. Awkward, ugly skater who still manages to create
decent speed. Undoubtedly a long-term project.
110. NEW YORK RANGERS
Ryan Graves – (D) PEI Rocket, QMJHL
111. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
Robin Norell – (RW) Djurgårdens J20, SuperElit (Sweden)
112. NASHVILLE PREDATORS (acquired from Toronto in a trade from 2011)
Zach Pochiro – (C) Prince
George Cougars, WHL:
Brings
energy and a high compete level every shift. Accelerates quickly and his top
speed is high. Tenacious on the forecheck and blocks shots. Pokecheck is like a
cobra: attacks sudden and quick. Mid-level to below average puck skills. Relies
on effort to create offense. Adding muscle will help his game. Needs to cut
back on frustration/retaliatory penalties.
113. EDMONTON OILERS
Aidan Muir – (LW) Victoria Honda Midget, MWEHL
114. WINNIPEG JETS
Jan Kostalek – (D) Rimouski
Océanic, QMJHL:
Plays
calm and mature in his zone and is never one to shy away from the physical
game. An average puck-handler, he can get the puck from A to B, but isn’t
likely impress with an amazing pass or deke. Agility and smooth skating helps
his physical game, too. High hockey IQ helps him in all three zones.
115. VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Jordan Subban – (D)
Belleville Bulls, OHL:
Puts a lot of emphasis on the offensive part of
his game. Good quickness and agility that keeps him from being burned in
transition. Has a hard shot that he frequently keeps on the ice. Excellent puck-handling
skills and good exit pass. Rarely engages opponents physically.
116. MONTRÉAL CANADIENS
Martin Reway – (LW/C)
Gatineau Olympiques, QMJHL:
Slovakian
speedster is hard to knock off the puck despite not having a size advantage on
many. Gets aggressive on the forecheck and will never make a soft play on the
puck. Never stops moving his feet. Shows pretty good playmaking vision and great
passing skills. Good sauce. Plays will perhaps too much passion? Has been
suspended and kicked off teams in the past.
117. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS (acquired from Toronto today for Dave Bolland)
Fredrik Bergvik – (G) Frölunda
J20, SuperElit (Sweden):
A
long-term project who already plays with tons of confidence. Very athletic and
appears bigger in goal than he actually is. Good balance and lateral movement.
Never gets caught off his angle and doesn’t over-commit. Sometimes doesn’t
recognize where threats away from the puck are.
118. LOS ANGELES KINGS
Hudson Fasching – (RW) USNTDP,
USHL:
Uses
his large frame to protect the puck extremely well and gain body position in
front of the net. Has a knack for scoring goals around the crease. Strong,
quick snap shot. Production is inconsistent and his hands are below average.
Explosive acceleration, but average agility.
119. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
Ryan Segalla – (D) Salisbury Crimson Knights, High School (CT)
120. BOSTON BRUINS
Ryan Fitzgerald – (C) Valley
Jr. Warriors, EJHL:
Utilized
in every situation and his incredible hockey IQ makes his so valuable in every
aspect of the game and for setting up teammates. Responsible defensively.
Skates well and isn’t afraid to dig around in the dirty areas along the boards.
Needs to take time to mature physically.
121. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
Tyler Motte – (C) USNTDP, USHL
Fifth Round
122. FLORIDA PANTHERS
Chris Clapperton – (LW) Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, QMJHL
123. COLORADO AVALANCHE
Will Butcher – (D) USNTDP,
USHL:
A
very good passer. Threads the needle on exit passes out his zone, and his a
good enough skater to carry it on his own, too. Plays motivated and confident.
Takes an extra second to evaluate all options, which can be great for a home
run ass or get him in trouble with forecheckers. His skill and hockey IQ make
him good on the PP. Has average-at-best lateral agility and footwork.
124. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
Kristers Gudļevskis – (G) HK Riga, MHL (Russia)
125. NASHVILLE PREDATORS
Saku Mäenalanen – (LW) Kärpät,
SM-liiga (Finland):
Undrafted
in 2012. 6’3” winger shows great speed and agility. Greatly improved his skating
mechanics and seems much more comfortable in his body. Aggressive on the
forecheck and finishes hits. Shows offensive upside, but most skills are still
raw. Still needs to get stronger.

128. EDMONTON OILERS
Evan Campbell – (LW) Langley Riverman, BCHL
129. BUFFALO SABRES
Cal Petersen – (G) Waterloo
Black Hawks, USHL:
Decent-sized
athletic goalie that moves smoothly across the crease, though adding more lower
body muscle would help him push off his edges harder. Good rebound control.
Isn’t afraid to get aggressive and come out and challenge shooters. Battles
hard and works his way into position on broken plays/odd bounces.
130. BUFFALO SABRES (acquired from FLA in exchange for TJ Brennan, which came from when LA traded for Keaton Ellerby, which
came from NJ in exchange for Andrei Loktionov)
Gustav Possler – (RW) MODO J20, SuperElit (Sweden)
131. DALLAS STARS
Cole Ully – (LW) Kamloops
Blazers, WHL:
Skilled
forward with good speed and scoring touch. Can protect the puck and make plays
at top speed. Effortlessly finds passing lanes and scoring positions in the
offensive zone. Struggles against bigger defenders.
132. PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
Terrance Amorosa – (D) Holderness Blue Bulls, Prep School (NH)
133. PHOENIX COYOTES
Connor Clifton – (D) USNTDP, USHL
134. WINNIPEG JETS
Luke Johnson – (C) Lincoln Stars, USHL
135. CALGARY FLAMES (acquired from Columbus in exchange for Blake Comeau)
Eric Roy – (D) Brandon
Wheat Kings, WHL:
An
offensive defenseman with all the skill in the world, but is dangerously
inconsistent shift-to-shift. Soft, crafty hands. Commits more turnovers than
Tony Romo. Plays soft defending the rush and in front of his crease. Doesn’t
read developing plays well at all. Has worked hard enough to have a strong
forward stride, but he still lacks lateral mobility.
136. NEW YORK ISLANDERS
Viktor Crus-Rydberg – (C)
Linköpings J20, SuperElit (Sweden):
A
great playmaker. Makes teammates of any skill level a greater threat in the
o-zone. Has scoring touch of his own and a wicked wrister. Plays responsibly in
his own end, too. A decent skater who lacks the leg strength to have high-end
acceleration. Isn’t overly physical, either.
137. MINNESOTA WILD
Carson Soucy – (D) Spruce Grove Saints, AJHL
138. OTTAWA SENATORS
Vincent Dunn – (C) Val-d'Or Foreurs, QMJHL
139. DETROIT RED WINGS
Mitch Wheaton – (D) Kelowna Rockets,
WHL:
Good puck-moving skills, but known for his
defensive game. Physically imposing, but doesn’t hit enough in his own corners.
His skating is poor, he’s a rare hockey player whose lower body seems weaker
than his upper body strength. Has a clunky, heavy-footed stride. Sometimes
struggles with his one-on-one positioning. A frequent shot-blocker.
140. NASHVILLE PREDATORS (acquired from NY Rangers in exchange for a 5th round pick in 2012)
Teemu Kivihalme – (D)
Burnsville Blaze, High School (MN):
Just
a great skater in every way. You name it: speed, footwork, agility,
transitions, he’s got it all. Good stickhandler with playmaking sense, but
doesn’t get too fancy. Will jump into the play if he gets the chance. Decent in
his own zone, but can get pushed around, rendering any smart positioning he
established useless. Extremely thin and lanky. He must bulk up.
141. SAN JOSE SHARKS
Michael
Brodzinski
– (D) Muskegon Lumberjacks, USHL:
Offensive
defenseman with a bit of a mean streak. A good, all-directions skater who is
pretty good on the rush and difficult for opponents to beat on their rush. Tons
of confidence with the puck. Knows when to pinch in the o-zone. Heavy slapper,
too, but needs to improve accuracy. Usually defensively strong, but when his
offense really gets going, he may abandon positioning.
142. TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
Fabrice Herzog – (RW) HC Zug, NLA (Austria)
143. BUFFALO SABRES (acquired from St. Louis in exchange for Jordan Leopold)
Anthony Florentino – (D) South
Kent Cardinals, High School (CT):
Strong,
smart defender who relishes the physical aspect of the game. Displays some good
skating skills, but must improve quickness. Stumbles when he has to turn
forwards to defend a quick, outside rush. Powerful slapper, but doesn’t like to
jump in the play. “Eagerly [looks] to catch opponents with their head down…
hits show impressive timing and power” – McKeen’s Hockey.
144. WASHINGTON CAPITALS
Blake Heinrich – (D) Sioux City Musketeers, USHL
145. VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Anton Cederholm – (D) Rögle J20, SuperElit (Sweden)
146. LOS ANGELES KINGS (acquired from Montréal in exchange for Davis Drewiske)
Patrik Bartošák – (G) Red Deer
Rebels, WHL:
After
injury derailed his first draft eligible season last year, he responded by
winning CHL Goalie of the Year honors. Strong glove hand and reflexes and
reaction time. Reads the play well, but also gets caught overcommitting to a
play and pays dearly.
147. ANAHEIM DUCKS
Grant Besse – (RW) Omaha Lancers, USHL
148. LOS ANGELES KINGS
Jonny Brodzinski – (C) St. Cloud State, NCAA
149. DALLAS STARS (acquired from Pittsburgh in the Brenden Morrow trade)
Matej Paulovič – (LW) Färjestad J20, SuperElit (Sweden)
150. BOSTON BRUINS
Wiley Sherman – (D) Hotchkiss Bearkats, High School (CT):
“Huge
stay-at-home defender who basically plays within the confines of his zone. His
size allows him to close the gaps, use his stick to clog the lanes and pushes
attackers to the outside. Skates well laterally. Needs to play much more
aggressively, and his skating must catch up to his growth.” – Bill Placzek, DraftSite.com
151. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
Gage Ausmus – (D) USNTDP,
USHL:
Plays
a simple, safe, physical game. When he steps outside of that comfort zone, he
can become a liability. Calm and poised when moving the puck, which he does
quite well. Doesn’t have much hockey sense beyond his own blue line, but
demonstrates a hard shot. Not an incredibly fast skater, but moves efficiently
in all directions. Good luck getting around him.

158. EDMONTON OILERS
Ben Betker – (D) Everett Silvertips, WHL
159. BUFFALO SABRES
Sean Malone – (C) USNTDP,
USHL:
A
very fast skater who blows by opponents. Has the skill and leg strength to make
cuts and turns on a dime and remain at full speed. Responsible in his own end,
too. Often takes a split second too long to make decisions with the puck.
Quick, powerful release to his shot. A brave, fierce forechecker, but gets
pushed around in the corners by bigger opponents.
160. NEW JERSEY DEVILS
Myles Bell – (LW/D)
Kelowna Rockets, WHL:
Went undrafted as a defenseman in 2011 and 2012,
but moved to wing this past season and put up 93 points in 69 games. Has a
heavy shot from the point that he’s learned to utilize in the slot and around
the net. A good skater and hard hitter, he isn’t afraid to go to the net. Could
never really figure out the defensive side of the game when he was a d-man, so
moving to forward hasn’t made processing defensive positioning any easier for him.
161. OTTAWA SENATORS (acquired from Dallas for the rights to Sergei Gonchar)
Chris Leblanc – (RW) South Shore Kings, EJHL
162. PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
Merrick Madsen – (G) Proctor Academy, Prep School (NH)
163. PHOENIX COYOTES
Brendan Burke – (G) Portland
Winterhawks, WHL:
Plays
a positionally sound game between the pipes. Always square to the puck and uses
his keep his chest tall to allow his size to protect most of the net when he’s
in the butterfly. Not particularly athletic, he can get beat sometimes with
sustained pressure.
164. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS (acquired from Winnipeg in exchange for Eric Tangradi)
Dane Birks – (D) Merritt Centennials, BCHL
165. COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
Markus Søberg – (RW) Frölunda
J20, SuperElit (Sweden):
Sniper
who knows how to navigate the offensive zone. Slyly slides into areas to get
off his lethal shot. Impressive speed and acceleration. Has quick hands and can
burn defenders one-on-one, but his hands aren’t exactly “soft.” Has the
lumberjack, “chopping wood” bad habit. Shot-first mentality, sometimes to a
fault. Doesn’t show good vision or instincts for setting up teammates.
166. NEW YORK ISLANDERS
Alan Quine – (C) Belleville Bulls, OHL
167. MINNESOTA WILD
Avery Peterson – (C) Grand
Rapids Thunder Hawks, High School (MN):
A
very intelligent hockey player with and without the puck. Is always positioned
right where he should be in all three zones. Isn’t overly skilled, but will
find “clever” ways to beat defenders. Displays good playmaking sense and a
hard, accurate shot. Has below average agility and isn’t quick coming of a
stationary position, but has a high top speed. Intensity might be an issue.
168. OTTAWA SENATORS
Quentin Shore – (C)
University of Denver, NCAA:
Plays
a defined two-way game. Strong defensively, and battles hard to win one-on-one
battle in the corners. He possesses a “clutch gene” and seems to always score
in big games.
169. DETROIT RED WINGS
Marc McNulty – (D) Prince
George Cougars, WHL:
A
big, strong body that becomes a wrecking ball, but he’s a little too selective
with when he decides to play physical. A good stickhandler for someone his size
and has decent puck-moving ability. Gives the puck away like it’s for charity.
Long reach helps him a lot in his own end, but he struggles reading the play at
times and gets caught flat-footed on the rush.

Mike Williamson – (D) Spruce Grove Saints, AJHL
176. MONTRÉAL CANADIENS
Jérémy Grégoire – (C/RW)
Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL:
Has
all the heart and passion in the world. Effective on the forecheck, finishes
hits, and creates scoring chances for himself and others with his physicality.
A smooth skater with a pretty stride, but can’t seem to find any separation
speed. Reliable on the PK. Makes his decisions quickly, and they’re usually
safe, smart plays. He must struggle to pay his bills, because he lacks skills.
177. ANAHEIM DUCKS
Miro Aaltonen – (C) Espoo Blues, SM-liiga (Finland)
178. LOS ANGELES KINGS
Zachary Leslie – (D) Guelph Storm, OHL
179. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
Blaine Byron – (C) Smiths
Falls Bears, CCHL:
Super-skilled
centerman with skill. Has great offensive instincts to go with his skill. Finds
passing lanes to set-up teammates. Needs to add muscle and improve his
defensive effort. His skating is ugly and a mechanical mess, but he’s
deceptively fast. Did I mention his skill?

Yaroslavl, MHL (Russia):
Stay-at-home
defenseman with great puck-moving ability. This guy knows how to play in his
own end. Very lanky right now; even though he needs to add muscle, he’ll still
engage opponents physically. Average speed, moves well laterally, covering a
lot of space. Not a lot of scoring potential.
188. EDMONTON OILERS
Greg
Chase
– (C) Calgary Hitmen, WHL:
Plays
with tons of energy and passion, but tends to be out-muscled in the corners. He doesn’t

the puck to his teammates well. His shot is fine, but has room for improvement.

Puck-moving
d-man with great vision coming out of his own end on the breakout and in the
offensive end. Great PP quarterback. Trusted with tons of minutes on a nightly
basis down the stretch for Regina. Lacks size, but has a stocky frame and
decent strength. Engages physically. Has a clean, long stride, but his short
legs mean he can’t reach great speeds.

Shut-down
d-man who loves to make opponents uncomfortable. He’ll drop the gloves, and

like a bigger man. Passes well and is calm when the puck is on his stick. Shot
is average at best. Sluggish skater.
